Responding to a theme of fibers, I considered the transition of a Thing into an Object. It is a transformation that involves care.

There is a lot of hostility expressed by frustrated, politically activated youths, and even in those who remain apart from the democratic process, grounded by their apathy. My father once told me that "destruction is the outlet of youth", and so with my piece Favored Vendetta, I take vibrant knotted yarns and bind them to the surface of a Thing of destruction. The gas can is empty, unable to function as intended, and it becomes an Object of visual appeal and kinetic comfort.

There are arguments made in favor of abandoning the democratic process in this country to instead commit to a revolution. A hopeful, terrible lie that is foretold by youths who see a future and present of scarcity for themselves. They use this Object, this false promise, as a coping mechanism in response to a chaotic climate.
